• UK Waste has ordered nine more LNG (liquid natural gas)-powered ERF EM multi-axled refuse collection chassis for its Stafford Borough fleet.
The 29-tonne 8x4s with their triaxle rear bogies are similar to those ordered for UK Waste's Maidstone operation with ERF's three-man centre-steer cabs, double-drive rear bogies and Jack Allen Swinglink RCV bodies with Terberg bin hoists. Unusually, the Maidstone batch included three standard 6x4s: while traditional eight-leggers would have been uneconomic and less manoeuvrable, eight had extra lift axles fitted ahead of the first drive axle.
These only lower as the bogie gets to within half-a-tonne of its legal limit; once down each adds another three tonnes to the GVW, which is set at 29 tonnes.
