• The latest bus operator to switch away from AEC double-deck buses due to the non-availability of a rear-engined model is the East Kent Road Car Co. Ltd., which has ordered 20 Daimler Fleetline chassis powered by Gardner 6LX engines.
East Kent is another BET company which has, for many years, standardized on AEC chassis for both single-deck and doubledeck models. The quandary facing East Kent was described in COMMERCIAL MOTOR, July 211967, when it was reported that the BET companies East Yorkshire Motor Services Ltd. and City of Oxford Motor Services Ltd:, together with Ipswich Corporation Transport, were dropping their standardization on AECs in order to obtain rear-engined double-deckers.
In the case of both East Yorkshire and City of Oxford the orders went to Daimler, while Ipswich ordered Leyland Atlanteans. F.K.M.
