AMOVE of considerable importance and one which will ease the difficulties of the haulage section of the industry, in so far asatheir staff, etc., are concerned, is the acceptance for Scheduling under the Essential Work (General Provisions) Order, 1941, of road-haulage undertakings, or those concerned in the distribution of coal, which operate five or more vehicles. Such concerns will be regarded as within the road-haulage industry, if they operate vehicles under A or B licences, or under C licence alone, provided that in the latter case they can properly be 'regarded as engaged in road haulage and have a separate and identifiable staff engaged therein. In such cases, scheduling would be con
fined to that part of the undertaking occupied in haulage.
Those wishing to be scheduled should approach the appropriate Regional Transport Commissioner and ask for their names to be submitted to the Minister of Labour.
As regards coal distribution, horsed vehicles may be included in the minimum of five vehicles to which scheduling applies. If they be operated under C licence or defence permit, application for scheduling should be made to the Divisional Coal Officer. If under B licence or defence permit, application should be made either to this Officer or to the Regional. Transport Commissioner. Applications to the former should be made on Form E.W.0.1.
