• TNT is returning to its transport roots following last week's partial split from its Dutch telecommunications parent.
TNT's worldwide activities were bought in 1996 by KPN, the Netherlands post and telecommunications business: last week's move leaves TNT with just the postal arm of the Dutch business. At the some time the new company, TNT Post Group, was floated on the London, Amsterdam, New York and Frankfurt stock exchanges. Alan Jones, managing director of TNT UK, says the "demerger" will allow management throughout the company to concentrate on parcels distribution, logistics and post.
"Running a telecommunications company has nothing whatsoever to do with transport," says Jones. "It [the demerged gives an opportunity for everyone to be working exclusively an the same thing." TNT employs more than 9,500 people in the UK, and has an annual turnover of £460m. TNT: Back to its roots
