• Swansea fruit and vegetable merchant F Ley & Sons fell foul of the law, and was fined .0,080, because the company was supplied with the wrong type of tachograph chart.
The company pleaded guilty to 13 offences of failing to use a tachograph in accordance with the regulations, when it appeared before the Llanelli magistrates.
Prosecuting, Vaughan Pritchard-Jones said that there were only three types of tachograph heads, Smith's, Lucas Kienzle and one other. If the wrong chart was used it would not fit. It was a fundamental mistake that should have been noticed.
Defending, Martin Jones said that the company ran nine vehicles, only five of which required tachographs. The charts were provided by their vehicle suppliers who, at some time, had inadvertently sent the wrong charts.
