LEX WILKINSON has further refined Wilkontrol, the computerised documentation and parcels monitoring. system first introduced eight years ago.
For the past three months, its consignment trace reports have been improved to give more information on why consignments are delayed en route.
Lex Wilkinson's computer services manager, Chas Palmer, told CM that the company has been making strides in improving the quality of status information to get around difficulties such as booking in deliveries to retailers with strict delivery times or of delivering to off-licences which close for periods during the day.
Now, it is able to tell its customers why a delivery takes longer than planned, as well as when this happens.
This is the latest stage in refining the Wilkontrol system, which has given consignment trace information since 1979 and which has been expanded in line with growth of the company's next-day delivery services.
The improvements in parcels status information have come at the same time as Lex Wilkinson is developing its partnership with Federal Express, the international courier service for whom it makes British deliveries outside London and Manchester.
Lex Wilkinson undertakes to supply Federal Express with status information by 8pm for use on its own online information system.
The demands of Federal Express have also helped convince Lex Wilkinson of the value of operating a full delivery service over Christmas.
