I am writing to you in response to your request for views on the recent fuel protest and where we go from here.
I have long held the view that if ALL and I mean ALL haulage companies were to get together and give ALL their staff a week's holiday on the same week, nationwide, it would have a far bigger impact than sporadic demonstrations.
The course of non-action would prevent confrontation and, providing that the PR machine was cranked up properly, would no doubt have support from the public.
Of course the unions would need to support this non-action with persuasive arguments being used to try and minimise an influx of foreign hauliers to take over from ours.
Fragmentation of our industry is well known from past events but perhaps now the strength of feeling against the arrogance of this government may be enough to unite them in a common cause.
It would be difficult to organise, but not impossible if everyone from drivers to MOs felt that it would be for their lone term benefit.
