A COMPETITIVE system for importing goods from Germany by road has been set up by British freight forwarders Davies Turner.
It is a driver-accompanied consolidation service using British drivers and tractive units, organised by Davies Turner's own German subsidiary in Munich, working in conjunction with a local freight forwarder.
Davies Turner has set up the operation to give a constant flow of cargo capacity for consolidation of imports from Germany, as well as exports from UK, at competitive rates. From December 1, 16 12m trailers will be leaving Germany for UK every week and the number will be stepped up to 20 a week in the New Year.
The company's European centre of operations in Munich is now organising collection of cargo direct on trailers for partloads from a wide area of southern and central Germany covered by cities such as Stuttgart, Mannheim, Frankfurt, Nurnberg, Regensburg, Dusseldorf and, of course, Munich itself.
Plans are being made to extend the import service to cover the whole of Germany with regular direct trucking to all parts of Britain.
