The 1930 report of Middlesex County Council states that some indication of the rapid increase of mechanical road transport in the county may be gathered from the fact that on March 31st, 1922, shortly after the operation of the Roads Act, 1920, the were in the county only
to
25,000 vehicles of all classes, whereas on March 31st, 1, , this figure had increased to 120,pOO.
The county kouncil still continues to license and regAster all mechanically propelled vehicles kept and used by the Admiralty, Vir Office, Air Ministry, 1)22
and Ministry of Labour, notwithstanding the fact that the vehicles may be kept and used in other counties. No duty is chargeable in respect of vehicles which are the property of the Crown.
