• Truckcare, the TNT network of over 140 independent CV workshops, is to offer insurance against major component failure with a guarantee to attend breakdowns within an hour.
Premiums for Fleet Protector
insurance will be calculated by vehicle weight, start mileage and annual milage, says TNT's Alan Parker.
When combined with a Truckcare service/repair deal it will allow operators to predict their running costs precisely, regardless of major component failures, he says. Grai Fleet Protector is due to be launched within
two months; Rapid Response, the breakdown attendance guarantee, will follow by the end of the year. When it is in operation no call out fee will be charged if stranded drivers have to wait more than an hour for roadside assistance.
More than 350 operators and 4,000 vehicles are currently covered by Truckcare agreements.
Parker says that operators are often unwilling to take their trucks more than 10 miles to have them serviced.
With the Truckcare network, he claims, "we can offer the operator a more local service with nationwide cover".
Truckcare agreements work on a pay-as-you-use basis (for a set number of services per year) which some operators prefer to a rigid maintenance contract.
