A SPR AY TRANSPORT says its £6.5m revamp of its head office and main depot will allow it to double in size within five yeas.
The West Midlands-based specialist express-transport company has poured £8m into upgrades over the past 18 months, extending its Willenhall HQ from five to 12 acres and investing in new office blocks and hub facilities.
The investment has taken a chunk out of Aspray's profits for the year ending 31 December 2004. Pre-tax profits fell to £503,000 from £1.4m for the same period in 2003. But turnover is up, rising from £17.3m to f18.2m. Operations director Stuart Laight says the outlay has set the company up for a prolonged period of growth. despite its impact on the 2004 financial results: "if we were going to continue to grow, we knew investment in our infrastructure had to come before sales growth.
"Our main hub is all bells and whistles now: there's a new LI .5m conveyor system, new office blocks, and a gatehouse. The infrastructure is now in place for the following', 10 yeas. It's an exciting time.
A new venture, sister company Aspray Logistics, was launched in April. The firm runs 300 vehicles from 12 depots.
