£50m. from Road Fund in Next Three Years: Better Roads Between Wales and Midlands
DISAPPOINTMENT has been caused by the Minister of Transport's announcement in the House of Commons on Tuesday of the Qovernment's road proposals for the next three years. They have been criticized by the British Road Federation, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders and others.
Expenditure from the Road Fund on new roads and major improvements to existing highways during the next three years will amount to about £50m. In the next financial year, schemes costing the Exchequer over i19m. will be authorized. A by-pass for Markyate, the urgency of which has been stressed by the National Road Transport Federation, is included.
