IT strikes me as being particularly odd that with the I present trend of -design running towards underfloorengines, with the attendant front overhang, no provision is being made by the manufacturers to facilitate raising the front axles for changing wheels, or which is perhaps even more important, to effect a quick lift in the event of an accident. • Perhaps the omission has been a matter of weight saving. A simple method of achieving the desired result, which should not add much to the weight, would be to employ a dropping sprag which could be cable-operated and included in the front axle assembly; when the sprag is dropped the vehicle is merely reversed and the front axle lifts. Driving forward again frees the sprag, which can then be lifted clear. The method is, of course, an old one, but has the advantage of simplicity.
