I N the interesting article entitled "The Case for Thin-wall Bearings" in your issue dated October 23, there was a reference in the last paragraph to tolerances for the connecting-rod bores and crankpin diameters, both being given as 0.005 in. Surely the figure for each should have read 0.0005 in.?

[This correspondent is quite correct. Tolerances for the connecting-rod bores and for the crankpins should not exceed 0.0005 in. Under "Accuracy of Assembly," the penultimate line of the first paragraph should also have ' read " . . . crankshaft tolerance, will determine . . . ."
