AFTER a number of objections had been withdrawn, the East Midlands Traffic Commissioners at Nottingham last week granted a licence for Midland General Omnibus Company to operate cheap pensioners' tours from Mansfield, Notts, to south coast resorts.

The tours will run in April, May, September and October, picking up in Notts at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Kirkby-inAshfield, Underwood and Eastwood, and in Derbyshire at Heanor and Ilkeston.

The proposed return fare to Torquay and Paignton is £3; to Weston-superMare £2; to Bournemouth and Weymouth £2 12s.; to Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings £2 125.; and to Margate and Ramsgate £2 10s.

Mr. Kenneth Hannis, assistant traffic manager of Midland General, of Langley Mill, Derbyshire, making the application, said they would be operating within their own territory, and he believed pensioners woUld prefer to travel as a group, and

without having to make changes.

Objecting on behalf of his company, Thomas Tours Ltd.. of Newark, Notts, Mr. S. Thomas said that setting down at a number of resorts would make the tours a "glorified express service A number of representatives of pensioners' organizations gave evidence to support the application.

The original objectors, represented by Mr. A. C. G. Rothera were Sheffield United Tours Ltd., Trent Motor Traction Co. Ltd., West Yorks Road Car Co. Ltd., Barton Transport Ltd., Maidstone and District Motor Services Ltd., and Southdown Motor Services Ltd.

Mr. Rothera suggested that Barton and _ Trent were prepared to ccinsider running a feeder service through Hucknall. Notts. to connect with the proposed tours, and consequently would withdraw their objections. Mr. Thomas continued to object on the grounds that he was running cut-price tours from Newark,
