the Cummins Vale 177 b.h.p. diesel engine will be produced in due course at the Chrysler-Cummins factory in Darlington, and plans are in hand for turbocharging the Val 134 b.h.p. unit The Vale-T has a rating of 225 b.h.p. at 3.300 r.p.m. and turbocharging provides self-compensation up to altitudes of 10,000 ft.
Produced by the company, turbochargers fitted to Cummins engines are of the oil-cooled plain-bearing type. In common with all Cummins engines, the combustion system and structural features of the Val and Vale are designed for turbocharging.
