ENEWAL of an excursion and tour IA licence from Dronfield and Brimington—said to have been in existence for many years—was refused by the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners at Leeds on Tuesday, 'because they did not consider that it had been properly operated. A renewal application had been made by the executors of F. IL Doughty, Ltd., Brimington (The Commercial Motor, February 26), and after hearing conflicting evidence at a previous sitting, Maj. F. S. Eastwood, chairman, recalled the company's accountant and driver. Mr. E. S. Gladwin, the accountant, admitted that he had accepted the figures of the late Mr. F. H. Doughty for the preparation of his accounts and returns, and that in the light of the evidence the. figures originally submitted were misleading. When he was further questioned on the evidence,he had given at the first hearing, Mr. C. Garland, the driver, admitted that statements concerning advertising and the number of tours operated had been "rather exaggerated." Mr. J. N. Valiance, for British Railways, and and Mr. F. S. Marshall, forthe road objectors, submitted that need bad' not been proved and there was no „case to answer. Mr. Valiance pointed out that even in the few cases where, according to records, excursions may have been operated, the revenue said to have been obtained did not agree with the amount which should have been received. The Commissioners decided that most of Doughty's work had been private hire.
