• A-novel method of lifting and transporting trees has been developed by Newman Tree Movers Ltd., Tring, Herts. Normal-control Bedfords. operated by Civic Trees (Tree Movers) Ltd.. an associate company, are converted for tough, off-the-road work with fourwheel drive, transfer gearboxes giving eight forward speeds, and heavy-duty tyres.
Each Bedford has a bumper-mounted 5ton winch which is used to tip a special trailer to the horizontal position. This action easily pulls the tree, with its prepared root ball, out of the ground. Three of the trailers can then be coupled together in V-formation and towed behind the truck.
