ANEW single-drive six-wheeler from Dodge Bros. (Britain) Ltd. is announced this week. Equipped with the A.E.C. 470-cu.in, diesel engine and York thirdaxle assembly, the gross vehicle weight is 20 tons. Three alternative wheelbases are available, these being II ft. 8 in., 14 ft. 8 in. and 17 ft. 4 in. The longest of these will accommodate a 24-ft.long body.
Two-leading-shoe brakes, airover-hydraulic operated and providing 1,024 sq. in. of lining are fitted, and a power-assisted handbrake operating on all the four rear wheels is standard, as is power steering.
A 10 in. by 3m, by in. frame is used, reinforced with a flitch channel, 10g in. deep by 3-15-4 in. wide. All-bolted construction is used and it is claimed that despite the generous dimensions of the frame, the unladen weight of the vehicle is exceptionally low. A two-speed axle is fitted, this being an Eaton 18802 Mk. 1. Ten-stud wheels are equipped with 10-0020 16-ply tyres on the front axle and 9'00-20 14-ply on the rear axles. A winch-type spare wheel carrier is fitted.
