• Castrol has developed a new oil specifically for use in road vehicle gas turbine engines. Called Castrol RT.350 it was formulated in 1968 at the company's research laboratories to meet British Leyland's requirements and has been used for a high proportion of the development work on the gas turbine truck engine.
Castro! RT.350 is a mixture of synthetic ester and mineral oil containing a range of additives to provide anti-oxidant and corrosion-inhibiting properties. In comparison with conventional mineral oils it is said to be better able to withstand the high bearing temperatures encountered in gas turbines but with no expensive consequences if it is accidentally used to top-up a conventionally lubricated vehicle Or vice-versa.
A British Leyland gas turbine tractor unit and 5000gal tanker in Castrol livery will be exhibited at Earls Court on the stand of the tanker manufacturer, Universal Bulk Handling Equipment Ltd.
