AFORM of construction widely used on the Continent and in the United States is to be embodied in 50 new Leyland Tiger Cub 45-seat buses for Edinburgh Transport Department. The new design makes use, of solid-riveted structures in place of the more usual stressed member concealed by a decorative outside skin. A prototype has been operating in Edinburgh for seven years and has proved robust and inexpensive to maintain.
The fleet, which is due for delivery within a few months, will be powered by Leyland 0.375 oil engines, developing 110 b.h.p. at 2,400 r.p.m. The specification includes four-speed semi-automatic Pneumo-Cyclic gearboxes with two-pedal control and 24-point air-operated 'automatic chassis lubrication.
