ASAVING of a ton has been achieved with a 37-seat steel body, with aluminium panelling, built by Watt Brothers, Woolloongabba, Queensland, on a Leyland Comet chassis. Constructed to the order of Mr. W. Poggioli, operator of the nine-strong fleet of Brisbane's Sunnybank Bus Service, the new Comet weighs 5 tons 9 cwt. The vehicle is returning a fuel-consumption rate of 14 m.p.g.
The Leyland is to be followed by an underfloor-engined Albion with a similar body. hit on the idea of converting them into caravans. The Bedford was their first conversion and was sent to Bournemouth to test site and purchaser reactions.
A general trade licence was issued for the normal purposes of the motor trade, so it was quite legal for a converted coach, being used for demonstration purposes, to carry trade plates.
