rOR the third time in six years, Lake
Hotel Coaches, Ltd., Keswick, were refused permission by the Northern Licensing Authority, last week, to operate excursions from Keswick to football matches at Workington. The application was opposed by Cumberland Motor Services, Ltd., who operate a stage-carriage service between Keswick and Workington.
It was explained that the applicants had offered to restrict themselves to a service for Rugby League games which would be used by members of the Keswick branch of the Workington Town Rugby League Supporters' Club, who were at present travelling by contract carriage.
Since Lake Hotel Coaches' last unsuccessful application, in 1948, Cumberland Motor Services had, it was explained, been running extra stage services and excursions to matches at Workington, but the applicants maintained that only soccer enthusiasts were making use of them.
Giving his decision, the Authority, Mr. I. A. T. Hanlon, said that facilities already existed for the Rugby match supporters.
