THERE were 126 accidents—one to 1 every 336,000 passengers—on trolleybuses in Hull last year, said Aid. J. Henson, chairman of the transport committee, at last week's meeting of Hull City Council.
Asked whether it was their acceleration that made trolleybuses so "hazardous," Ald. Henson said that the number of passengers who fell off the vehicles or were injured by being thrown off balance was four, which was equal to one in I Oim, passengers. Automatically controlled acceleration equipment was fitted to 35 trolleybuses, and all new trolleybuses would have this safeguard.
Emphasizing that there was little difference in the accident rates for trolleybuses and motorbuses, Aid. Henson said the corresponding figure for the latter was 102, the equivalent of one accident to 450,000 passengers. It was expected that accidents on motorbuses would be lower, because of the difference in operating conditions.
