• Foden Trucks has built the first of four Kenworth KW520 heavy-duty 6x6 tractive units ordered by oil field specialist Dowell Schlumberger for use in the Middle East and North Africa.
Power from the Detroit Diesel 8V71N 227kW (304hp) V8 engine drives through an Allison CLT754 five-speed automatic gearbox.
Rockwell axles are used with an 8.6-tonne FLS2102A at the front and a 31.75-tonne SW280 tandem-axled rear bogie sprung on Kenworth KW670 heavy-duty suspension.
Its unusual features include a fifth wheel assembly that can be swivelled out of sight to present a flat floor for general cargo carrying and a demountable King Trailers body system that allows the vehicle to be used with other types of semi-trailer.
Large items of skidmounted plant can be loaded using the 30-tonne Tulsa winch.
