• Nissan has confirmed that It intends to use the Spanish manufacturer Motor Iberica — in which it holds an 83% stake — as its main centre for European-sourced light commercials.
Despite apparent advantages, Nissan UK says that the recently-opened £50 million assembly plant at Sunderland, will only build cars.
Motor Iherica builds the Nissan Patrol 4x4 and the Vanette compact van sold in the UK, as well as the Ebro Trade.
Vehicles not already built in Spain will continue to be shipped complete from Japan.
