of RECENT marketed in this country by Benjamin Whittaker, Ltd., Victoria House, Vernon Place, Southampton Row, London, W.C.1, is the Handy Perfection oil-bath air cleaner. It is made in sizes suitable for practically all commercial-vehicle engines having downdraught or updraught carburetters. The Handy air cleaner is claimed to extract over 99 per cent, of the foreign, matter out of the air, and to require no attention bar the occasional removal of the accumulated dirt and the renewal of the oil.
An accompanying diagram shows how the device functions. The lowest part of the intake pipe, when no air is passing, is totally submerged in oil. So soon as air flows, oil in the form of mist is carried with it into the condenser, through which, unlike the air, it does not penetrate, but is precipitated back to the reservoir, via the passage seen on the right.
Important features are that the oil is continually washing the condenser element clean, and that practically no restriction is offered to the free flow of air.
