• Lewington; 9 Hardy Way, Enfield, Middlesex.) The drawing shows how the rotary motion is created. The crankshaft carries a bevel pinion (1) meshing with a stationary crownwheel (2). As the crankshaft turns, it also rolls around the crown wheel, taking with it the connecting-rod and the piston. The part (3) is not another bevel pinion, but a counterbalance weight.

The crankshaft bearing assembly (4) is carried on a spindle (5) running in journals (6). The spindle is the output member and carries the flywheel (7). The cylinder and the outer casing are of course stationary and carry the usual inlet and exhaust ports (8 and 9). The valve vents are fully illustrated in a diagram given in the specification.
