Scammell and CF win large order from Russia

• An order worth £fm has been received from Russia by Crane Fruehauf Trailers Ltd and Scammell Lorries Ltd for the supply of a special 300-ton capacity trailer and three Contractor ballasted tractor units.
The trailer, valued at £135,000 with spares, is designed for the transport of high indivisible loads and will be used primarily for carrying electrical transformers to Siberia. The trailer is 120ft long and 18ft wide and is capable of carrying loads up to 43ft long and the deck is adjustable in width to accommodate abnormally wide loads. The trailer is constructed of steel with a special specification to withstand the Siberian temperatures, which go down to minus 35deg C.
The three Contractor tractor units, 'of 240-ton capacity, are valued in total at £85,000 and each is fitted with a Cummins NT335 335 bhp engine, Self Changing Gears fluid coupling and RV30 gearbox. The 6 X 4 units are fitted with a 40-ton bogie and 10-ton front axle, and are lefthand drive.
