• Apart from some Cheviot goats in Lowther Wild Life Park there are no longer any mountain goats in the Lake District. But a different sort of goat is appearing on Kirkstone Pass and should become even better known if things go according to plan.
1972's "Mountain Goat" is a minibus carrying passengers between Ullswater and Windermere over Kirkstone. Its owner, Mr Christopher Taylor, aged 34, of Sawrey, hopes to increase the Goat's range and carry passengers in other parts of Lakeland.
• Mr Taylor is a director of the Lakeland Mini Bus Company and he has applied to the Northern Traffic Commissioners to run new routes. Eventually he hopes to have a fleet of five buses which will fill the gaps left by the decline of public transport in the area.
