• Steel Supply Co (Haulage) Ltd, Bedford, had its licence revoked by the Eastern deputy LA, Mr Gerald Kidner, last week when it failed for the third time to appear at a public inquiry.
Mr Anthony Odell, a vehicle examiner, told the court that he had called at the operator's premises in March and examined one vehicle. There were three serious defect and an immediate GV9 was issued market neglect. A second vehicle on the licence wa said to be abroad and he was unable to in terview the person responsible for transpor who was also abroad. Records were nc available and he concluded that either ir spections were not being carried out or tha the fitter was not properly qualified.
Mr Kidner said there was little option bt to revoke the licence. The company had bee called in June and again in August to Section 69 inquiry and had not shown u on both occasions. The LA had considere it a case where the company should be r( presented and had given them a final chanci However, it now seemed they did not wish t appear and put their side of the story.
The licence authorized six vehicles an two trailers with two vehicles and one trail( specified.
