Changes at the Institute of Traffic Administration cannot go unremarked by'your columnist. I'm sure the institute will be marking Fred Pywell's retirement in an appropriate way, but his services as nation,a secretary, and later as director, have been central to loTA's development. In fact there's hardly a position he hasn't filled at some time, from Southampton chairman to national treasurer.
I haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting his successor, Wing Commander G. C. McCarthy, but his organizing reputation precedes him—most recently as man in charge of operations for the RAF's worldwide transport activities from Brize Norton. (Not, as the institute's journal rather winsomely calls it, Prize Norton. No prizes either for calling Jack Bangay " Jack Baugay." Still, with proofreading we're back among those glass houses again.)
