A REVISED pay offer has averted a strike by 30 tanker drivers at Shell Direct but union leaders say they have still failed to negotiate a settlement at Gleaner Oils.
The two Scottish oil distribution companies were both threatened with a series of one-day stoppages and an overtime ban after drivers rejected the original 5.37% offer (CM 6 May).
Hourly pay for drivers at Shell Direct is being increased from £8.35 to £9 in a two-stage deal worth 4.2% backdated to October with a further 3.45% from the beginning of this month (May). Pat Rafferty, regional industrial organiser for the Transport & General Workers Union, says:
