• A suggestion that the lorry appointments scheme in the Liverpool docks should be operated at a higher executive level so that the men in charge of both road transport and wharfing could get at each other, was made at the meeting of Merseyside Chamber of Commerce and Industry on April 4.
The meeting was discussing a report of the transport committee that, in spite of all the publicity and the efforts of both shipowners and the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company, the lorry appointments scheme was not proving satisfactory and initial support was now falling off.
