by London Transport will be introduced on January 23. The number of Sunday bus passengers has fallen by 54 per cent in the past 10 years and the service provided by central (red) buses has been cut by 40 per cent over the same period. The further reduction of 12 per cent now planned will restore the balance.
Rear-engined Routemasters: The rear-engined bus now being developed by London Transport would be used only if it showed the same economy in fuel consumption as the Routemaster, stated Mr. R. M. Robbins, LTB Board member, this week. This would more than offset any extra capital costs.
South Wales Introduce OMO: One-man operation of single-deck buses on certain routes was introduced by the South Wales Transport Co. Ltd. last weekend as part of economy measures to counteract increased costs. There will be no redundancy arising from these measures which have been brought in with the full co-operation of the bus crews.
