ANEW scheduled service from the north of England to Antwerp and other Belgian destinations was inaugurated on Whit-Monday. The facility is being provided by Continental Road Services (Ackworth), Ltd., associates of the Ackworth Transport Co, Ltd., Pontefract, Yorks.
The first consignment carried to Belgium consisted of bottling equipment from the Hope and Anchor Breweries, Ltd., Sheffield.
• The time-table provides for the service to leave Ackworth on Monday at 8 p.m., arriving at Tilbury on Tuesday at 8 a.m. There the tractor is detacbed and the 24-ft. semi-trailer is placed on the ferry vessel. On arrival at Antwerp at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, a Belgian haulier's tractor takes over and deliveries in the surrounding area are scheduled for completion on Wednesday afternoon.
An Albion tractor draws the semitrailer. The Belgian hauliers will, wherever possible, provide return loads.
Belgium will be the first Continental country to bottle Hope and Anchor's Jubilee stout, which is shipped in 1,000gal. tanks.
