MR. PETER HOWDLE, publicity manager of Guy Motors, Ltd., has resigned. He is succeeded by MR. R. J. R1DGF,, who has held the post before.
MR. F. C. MARGETTS has replaced MR. F. GRUNDY as a British Transport Commission nominee on the Yorkshire Transport Users' Consultative Committee.
MR. A. E. P. TURNER has resigned his position as director and secretary of Thompson Bros. (Bilston), Ltd. MR. A. W. WAGSTAFF has succeeded him as secretary.
THE DUKE OF RICHMOND AND GORDON
has been re-elected president of the Motor and Cycle Trades Benevolent Fund, with MR. H. G. HENLY as honorary treasurer, and MR. A. FRASER DURDIN as his deputy.
MR. E. R. Foxtow, financial director of H. and J. Quick, Ltd., is surrendering the post of company secretary to MR. NORMAN JONES, another director. Mr. Foxlow will concentrate on financial matters.
MR. NORMAN EDMENSON has succeeded MR. J. RUSSELL KNOWLES as managing director of Gulf Oil (Great Britain), Ltd. Mr. Knowles has retired after 25 years. MR. J. R. SmEt.tin has been appointed vice-managing director.
MR. DOUGLAS SCHOFIELD has been appointed product engineer for Hepworth and Grandage, Ltd., Bradford. He was formerly the company's assistant chief designer, and is replaced by MR. A. WILSON. MR. N. HIRD becomes chief draughtsman.
MR. R. G. Witsort will become general traffic manager of S.P.D., Ltd., the warehousing and distributive associate of Unilever, Ltd., on April 1. At present he is north-eastern divisional manager. His place in the north-eastern division will be taken by MR. E. J. FROGLEY, MR. B. A. GAY has been appointed West of England regional manager of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., succeeding MR. J. M. SIMON. Mr. Gay, who has been with the company for 23 years, became Bristol manager in 1955. He is succeeded there by MR. F. D. FARLEY.
MR. R. H. GRAVENER has been appointed traffic superintendent at Dover for the East Kent Road Car Co., Ltd. He joined the company as a conductor in 1946 and 10 years later became acting chief clerk. He now succeeds MR. H. PRICE, who emigrated to Australia last
September. •
MR. J. C. DEAN, who resigned from the general managership of the Bristol Omnibus Co., Ltd., at the end of last year, is leaving for Nairobi on March 19, and is joining the Africa Transport Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of United Transport Co., Ltd., as director and executive, with particular responsibility for bus operations in East Africa. MR. D. A. C. BENNETT, overseas sales manager of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., has been appointed to the local board at Fort Dunlop.
MR. T. H. AMBLIN has been elected chairman of the Frame Sub-area of the Road Haulage Association, with MR. E. J. Bet•rwrr vice-chairman.
MR. A. H. W. OLIVER has been re-elected chairman of the Reading Area of the Traders' Road Transport Association, and MR. A. F. TAYLOR vicechairman.
MR. E. E. WITCHARD has become chairman of the livestock functional group of the Southern Area of the Road Haulage Association. MR. W. G. Coox is vicechairman.
MR. B. G. MEAK1N has been appointed manager of the technical department of the Automobile Association, following the retirement of MR. 3. R. KINSEY, chief engineer since 1946.
MR. W. P. S. ORMOND, Eastern Licensing Authority, will be among the guests at a luncheon preceding the annual meeting of the Eastern Area of the Traders' Road Transport Association in Cambridge next Thursday.
SIR GRAHAM CUNNINGHAM, chairman and managing director of the Triplex group of companies, has resigned the managing directorship of Weldall and Assembly, Ltd., Stourbridge, a member of the group's engineering division. MR. EDWARD E. TOON, works manager of the company, has succeeded him.
MR. D. B. GRIFFrms and MR. D. J. A. MoBssv have been appointed joint home sales managers for Guy Motors, Ltd. MR. B. FOSTER, formerly a representative, becomes passenger-vehicle sales manager, and MR. W. G. DALLARD, formerly assistant export sales manager, becomes export department manager. These changes follow the appointment of MR. W. L. DRUMMOND and MR. G. E. HARRIS ICI the board. New area sales managers are: north-east, MR. T. W. BOWMAN; northwest, MR. REX JONES; Midlands, MR. E. H. StktmoNos; south-east, MR. R. HERRING; London, MR. P. ASCOUGH; and south-west, MR. M. N. CHARD. MR. EDGAR FRYER, a Bristol coach driver, was on Monday re-elected for the 11th successive year to the chairmanship of the Transport and General Workers' Union. Mr. Fryer, who is 54, has been a member of the Union's executive for 20 years.
MR. G. H. NAPTHINE, director and general manager of Hants and Dorset Motor Services, Ltd., is to retire on June 30. He began his career in 1920 with the East Surrey Traction Co., Ltd., and in 1935 became general manager of Westcliff-on-Sea Motor Services, Ltd. He took up his present posts in 1949.
MR. A. MOORE has been appointed southern group manager of the National Benzole Co., Ltd., and has been succeeded as northern divisional manager by MR. C. E. WILSON. MR. B. PRESTON has taken over •from Mr. Wilson as Lancashire divisional assistant manager, and MR. G. F. S. JACKSON has become staff manager at the London head office.
MR. R. F. BENNETT', deputy general manager of Plymouth Transport Department, has been appointed general manager of the Great Yarmouth undertaking, succeeding MR. H. A. BLACKBURN, who is to retire. Mr. Bennett was a technical assistant at Plymouth until 1954, when he joined the Michelin concern at Stoke-on-Trent for about a year. In the early 1920s, Mr. Blackburn was rolling stock superintendent at Plymouth.
MR. R. J. FosTER has been appointed area manager for the Midlands and north-west England of Laycock Engineering, Ltd., and will operate from a new office and service -store at Crossfield Road, Trent Valley, Lichfield. MR. A. L. BOND represents the company in Birmingham and the West Midlands and MR. H. C. SOUTH in Lancashire and North Wales. MR. R. STEVENS has become Eastern Counties area manager, whilst MR. G. E. COOK Will represent the company in west London and MR. F. T. Euts in certain parts of the south-east. MR. G. W. NewooiD is the company's specialist representative for lubrication and wheel-balancing equipment.
