• A study tour of Australia and the Far East is being organized by Independent Trade Missions, in association with our associated journal Freight Management, BOAC and Thos. Cook and Son Ltd. Main object is to enable participants to attend the International Container Exhibition and Container Symposium at Melbourne on June 25/26.
The tour starts on June 15 from London and lasts three weeks. On the outward journey a stop will be made at Singapore, where inspection can be made of freight handling methods and port installations.
Twelve days will be spent in Australia with opportunities to inspect port installations at Perth, Sydney and Melbourne and free time for business commitments.
On the return journey a five-day stop will be made in Tokyo, with tours enabling' participants to see the latest methods of freight handling and distribution adopted by the Japanese. The return flight will be made by BOAC's new polar route.
Cost of the tour will be in the region of £690, including return air fare, first-class hotel accommodation and breakfast, touring incidentals and the fee for participating in the symposium at Melbourne. This compares with the normal return air fare to Australia of about £608.
