AN APPEAL to operators to make allowances for depreciation, even in a climate of ratecutting, was made this week by Road Haulage Association vicechairman Bert Neely.
Pointing out that every operator is £30 to £100 per vehicle poorer every week through depreciation, he told East Midlands operators: "From what I hear, many of us are, by force of circumstances, often required to operate vehicles at rates of return which barely cover operating costs, without taking this depreciation and other overheads into account."
He added that, if the trend continues, operators will be unable to replace their existing vehicles, and customers will suffer as a result.
