A SEVEN-PAGE booklet dealing with broken wheel studs, overtorquing, seating of wheels on brake drums or inner cones, loose wheel nuts, condition of wheel discs and problems with twin rear wheels has been published by the South Wales maintenance committee for goods vehicles.
Entitled A Study of Wheel Stud and Wheel Nut Failure and Notes on Effective Brake Maintenance, the booklet contains some very useful appendices listing manufacturers service bulletin dates and numbers; wheel-nut torque loadings for a wide range of British, American ;and European axles; and dia grammatic explanations of the types of wheel fixing, the clear ance between inner-wheels and brake drums, and typical wheel rim failures.
