JOSEPH STAPLETON, of Wainfleet (Lincs.), was fined £5 with endorsement of licence at Spilsby Magistrates' Court for using a lorry with a defective tyre. He was also fined £4 on each of five charges relating to the use of lorries without Excise licences.
At the same court he was asked to state why he should not be sent to prison for failure to pay previous fines totalling £370 relating to the use of his lorries. He was sentenced to three months' imprisonment but upon an offer to pay by realising assets, sentence was postponed for four months. Stapleton claimed to have assets worth about £20,000 bpt no liquid cash.
