ANEW series of light-alloy sections from which platform and drop-sided bodies can be built quickly, economically and without skilled labour, has been produced by *Ncitthern Aluminium Co.. Ltd., for
E. J. Holmes. Ltd., I13-115 North Street. Romford. Essex.
Designed for economy and ease of assembty. the sections comprise two floor planks, two cross-bearers, two side raves, floor-holding clips and a drop-side framing member.
' The floor sections, which may be flat or ribbed, are intended for fixing either by bolts passing through the top flange of the cross-bearer, or by means of the special clip sections. These clips can he slipped into place after the floor planks have been laid, and locate on t h e cross bearer lips on sections.
Each clip clamps the edges of the two adjacent floor planks and, it is claimed, makes a quick and effective joint. The upper part of the clip will take the head of a standard hexagon bolt and, it is claimed, prevents it from turning.
A tongue and groove arrangement incorporated in the planks assists in the E16
exclusion of dust and moisture. A complete seal can be made if jointing compound is used.
An advantage claimed for the Jsection shape of the cross-bearers is that it allows two floor-holding clips to be used at each joint, and a more tied connection to be obtained. The section for front and real bearers is similarly based on a lipped channel,, but this also incorporates a floor: capping angle and a shroud plate, which is said to save labour in assembly. When used at the front of the vehicle it adds considerable stiffening to the body and headboard.
