• A new body to co-ordinate employment and training services, to be known as the Manpower Services Commission, recently announced by Mr Maurice Macmillan, Secretary of State for Employment. The proposal is endorsed by the Trades Union Congress and the Confederation of British Industry.
The Commission — responsible to the Secretary of State — will consist of about 10 members representing both sides of industry, local authority and education interests. It will take over responsibility for the Employment Services Agency established by the Department of Employment and also the Training Services Agency that is to be set up. Its main functions would be: planning, developing and operating the public employment services; carrying out the broad range of functions set out for the proposed National Training Agency in "Training for the Future"; and advising the Minister on man power questions.
