Wells Fargo, the famous American freight company which blazed many a Wild West stagecoach trail, has a Scottish rival — Wells Cargo. Mind you, it has some way to go. Owner Thomas Glover of New Abbey, Kirkcudbrightshire, at present has one 35cwt van which plies between Dumfries and Gatehouse-of-Fleet.
The business was started by Mr Glover's late stepfather, named Wells, and the firm was nicknamed Wells Fargo locally. Explains Tom Glover: "When I took over I tried to have it officially registered under that name but was told this was impossible. So I simply changed the 'F' to 'C' and this was accepted."
