LONDON Transport's pre-paid bus ticketing experiment in Havering has not sped up one-man buses sufficiently to justify central London o-m-o.
The scheme, described in CM December 1, has proved popular with passengers and crews, but LT says that current discount levels have resulted in "unacceptable" loss of revenue.
It says that the increases in boarding times have not been as great as it expected, and that the improvement is insufficient to allow "fleetwide" o-m-o without disruption to services through central and inner London.
As CM predicted on December 1, LT has told Greater London Council that it intends to retain its fleet of open-platform Routemaster double-deckers for as long as it continues to be possible to maintain and overhaul them.
