rXCESSIVELY high taxation on road
use is one reason why industry is reluctant to set up new factories in the North, says the British Road Federation in a memorandum to the Chancellor of the Exchequer calling for the removal of the surcharge on fuel duty and its further
reduction by 10 per cent to bring it to a level of 2s. 3d. a gallon.
The total of road taxation will, it is estimated by the Federation, amount to £745 million in the current year. For the three main classes it is made up as follows:—
