AT the agm of the Commercial Motor Lorry. Driver of the Year Competition last week, Sir Daniel Pettit was re-elected president. Other elections were G. W. Aston (Guymers Transport Ltd) as vice-president, A. E. Sherlock-Mesher (editor of the RHA's journal Road Way) as deputy president, A. R. Teer (Cadbury-Schweppes Ltd) as national clerk of the course. Council members elected were L. Newman (Torbay), E. R. Lunn (Leeds), A. Wilson (Fife), M. Allen (Coventry) and G. B. Emery (South Wales).
Tests were approved for the 40 regional contests in 1975, which will include a loading bay, dead-straight driving, width judgment and front parking. Forward distance judgment will rate as a full test with the new maximum of 100 penalties per test.
The entry fee will be 6 per competitor. As has always been the case, there is no further charge for competitors qualifying for the National Finals. The RTITB has recognized the competition as grant-earning at the new rate for three days for regional contests plus one day for the National Finals.
