HEALTHY home and export sales have been reported by MAN and the German lorry and bus manufacturer has plans to boost output accordingly.
Production of goods vehicles is to rise from 19,000 for the year 1979/80 to 21,000 for the year 1980/81. Bus and coach production is scheduled to increase from 2,400 to 3,000 over the same period.
MAN's turnover for the year ending June 30, 1981 is expected to be around DM3.7 billion (£800m) compared with last year's £3.17 billion (£690m).
Unlike the UK, the German home market for commercial vehicles is reasonably buoyant with registrations 2.4 per cent up. Commercial vehicle exports are also strong and are 22 per cent up on last year. Despite the weakness in other European markets, exports from Germany to the Middle East and Nigeria are compensating well.
