Having read over the past weeks the arguments for and against the 450km limit, one obvious point appears to have been overlooked.
The 450km limit as applied in the EEC refers to an 8-hour driving day, and this gives our EEC colleagues a driving distance of 56.2km per hour.
Surely, our daily limit should be arrived at on the same basis, ie 56.2km for a 10-hour driving day. This limit could be reduced by 28.1km per day as each half-hour is deducted from the driving time. This would mean the limit becoming 534km on 1/12/78 and 506km on 1/ 7/79, etc.
Had this been implemented from the start I feel sure we would not have had all these arguments.
