• Western Motor Holdings, which has car transporter company Autocar and Transporters, and truck and van dealerships among its commerical vehicle concerns, has had a strong start to 1988.
Operating profit was 24.77 million in the half-year to the end of June: up from £2.93 million in the previous six months. Turnover was 2121.8 million.
The group says that Autocar and Transporters is benefiting from a buoyant UK car market, winning new contracts with Peugeot, Rover and Vauxhall. In the half-year it delivered 130,000 cars, compared with 102,000 in the same period last year.
Investment in truck predeliveries should bring results in the second half of the year, says Western.
